The P&O Oriana is one of only three adult-only ships in the P&O fleet. It was originally named by Queen Elizabeth II in 1995, but was almost completely refurbished in 2011. It was during this refit that all the children’s facilities were removed, turning it into an adult-only cruise liner. The Oriana boasts a selection of great restaurants, chilled-out bars and iconic features, such as her three-deck high atrium with a Tiffany glass style ceiling to a wood-panelled library. A so-called ‘timeless classic’, the Oriana is ideal for a romantic getaway or a relaxing holiday away from it all.
Dining on P&O Oriana
When the ship was refurbished in 2011, two brand new restaurants were constructed; the Ocean Grill is a Marco Pierre White restaurant and lives up to its name in the quality and taste of its food, which is mainly of the nouveau cuisine style; Thai fishcakes, grilled lobster and wild boar burgers are among its dishes. The second new restaurant, Sorrento, offers Italian fare, such as pizzas, pastas and seafood.
The al fresco pizzeria offers outdoor dining, while Tiffany’s Court is a delicious coffee and chocolate bar. The Crow’s Nest Lounge has a panoramic view of the passing waves and is one of the iconic touches to be found on the ship.
Entertainment on P&O Oriana
The Oriana is owned and operated by P&O, which is a British based company. As a result, its clientele tend to be from the UK and the styling of the ship reflects this. The Lord’s Tavern is a sports-themed bar with plenty of cricket memorabilia, while the meals in the Ocean Grill are described as ‘modern British’. The ship also has a cinema, ‘Chaplin’s’, while the Theatre Royal stages some classic British productions, along with a variety of comedy shows.
In keeping with the adult-only theme of the P&O Oriana, there is a casino on board, as well as a wedding chapel for those wishing to tie the knot at sea.
Facilities on P&O Oriana
The P&O Oriana is a luxury cruise liner and her facilities echo this; with three swimming pools and four whirlpool spas, relaxation is clearly the aim of the day. The Oasis spa and gym have beautiful views of the passing ocean for the health-conscious.
On the top deck, sports courts and golf nets provide those who wish for a little more activity with the ideal playground.
The Oriana has a huge variety in the size and style of its cabins. From standard indoor cabins to exclusive suites, complete with a walk-in dressing room and guest bathroom, there is something suitable for all budgets. Those in the exclusive suites also have access to a butler service.
Adore Cruises recommends
With her strict adults only policy, the medium-sized luxuriously appointed Oriana is ideal for those wishing to simply get away from it all. The décor and atmosphere of the ship is classic and timeless, with modern comforts galore and activities to suit everyone.
